Birth Certificate apostille in Florida

A birth certificate is the document people most often try to get notarized — and the one a Florida notary legally cannot copy-certify. We can't make a certified copy, but for use abroad we apostille your certified birth certificate so it's recognized overseas. This is our most common apostille.

Can a Florida notary certify a copy of a birth certificate?

No — but here's what we can do.

No — a Florida notary cannot certify a copy of a birth certificate. Vital records are issued and certified only by the government office that holds them (in Florida, the Department of Health / Bureau of Vital Statistics). A notary attesting to a copy of a vital record would be unlawful. If you need additional certified copies, order them from the issuing vital-records office; for use in another country, the certified copy gets an apostille.

Need your birth certificate recognized in another country?

An apostille is the only thing that makes a foreign government accept it. We handle the right authority — state or federal — track it end-to-end, and add a certified translation when the destination country needs one.

// how it works

From certified copy to apostille.

01

Get the certified copy

Order the agency-certified copy (vital-records office, court clerk, or registrar) — we'll tell you exactly which one and how.

02

We authenticate it

We submit it to the correct authority — the Florida Secretary of State for state documents, or the U.S. Department of State for federal ones.

03

Accepted abroad

You get the apostilled document back, optionally with a certified translation, ready for the destination country. We track it the whole way.

Birth Certificate FAQ.

If you can't certify a copy, how do I prove my birth certificate abroad?

You order a certified copy from the issuing state's vital-records office, and we apostille that certified copy through the Florida Secretary of State (or the originating state's authority). The apostille is what makes a foreign government accept it — that's the right tool here, not a notary copy.

Can you apostille a birth certificate from another U.S. state?

Yes, frequently. An out-of-state birth certificate is apostilled by that state's authority; we manage the process and the mailing so you don't have to chase a far-off agency. Florida-issued ones we handle through Tallahassee.

Does the birth certificate need translating?

If the destination country doesn't use English, yes — and we can pair a certified translation with the apostille so the package is complete. Common for dual-citizenship and overseas marriage filings.
